The China National Opera and Dance Drama Theater is a State-level theater directly under the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of China. Among all directly affiliated theaters and orchestras, this theater is the oldest and operates on the largest scale with the broadest number of artistic categories.
The theater is composed of the following departments: Opera Troupe, Dance Drama Troupe, Symphony Orchestra, Chinese Folk Music Troupe, Stage Design, Playwriting, and Performance.
Since 1964, the theater has produced more than 100 stage works, such as operas "White Haired Girl" (China's first modern opera work), "Red River Valley" and "Lin Huiyin", dance dramas "Confucius", "The Orphan of Zhao", "Princess Zhaojun" and "Li Bai", and orchestral works "Silk Road Symphony" and "National Treasures".
